Approximate Purchase Date: Tomorrow (7/14/2011)

Budget Range: About $1800 ($1300-$2300), after taxes and rebates.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Speakers, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference

Country of Origin: United States

Parts Preferences: I would prefer to use an Intel CPU and a Nvidia GPU.

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments:

My budget has about a $1000 flexibility. Im shootinf for about $2000, but if spending a little extra will get me a more future-ready computer or something, I am willing to spend extra. On the other hand, if saving some cash really wont effect the performance much, that wont hurt either.

On the GPU - Ive read that ATI actually performs better for the same cost, but ive always been a fan of Nvidia. Im not strict on the Nvidia only, but I would prefer it. If you suggest ATI, please give me some rationale for making the switch. In case it matters, my display is a 40" 1080P LCD TV.

Aesthetics are somewhat important. Since i'm spending $2000 on the computer, I don't really want the case to look like a standard office computer. I do not care if the case has a window or not, I just want it to look "expensive" like the stuff inside of it.

This is the build that I am currently considering:

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K $219

MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $239

GPU - EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $459 ($479-$20)

PSU - SILVERSTONE ST1000-P 1000W ATX 12V v2.3 & EPS 12V 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply $184

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Desktop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBRL $59

SDD - OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $199 ($219 - $20)

HDD - SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 HD204UI 2TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $79

CASE - Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series 600T Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $169 ($179 - $10)

COOLING - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel ... $49

OPTICAL - LG Black Super Multi SATA WH12LS30 LightScribe Support - OEM $79

Final Price: $1667 (after tax, with shipping)

How does this selection look? I went with a large power supply as I plan to get a second 580GTX in the future, when one isnt enough. I would like this computer to last me for a while.

--Edit--
Shopped around some different websites to find better prices. Did not modify the original links or prices, but the final price has now been reduced to $1667 from $1940

As per recommendations, now using these parts instead of original:

MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $189

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL $74

COOLING - XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler bracket included I7 i5 775 1155 AMD and dual fan push pull compatible $29

^ Nice parts, some suggestions,...

Here is a build with some good alternatives and combos,...

i5 + BD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

Mobo + RAM
IMO that SSD feature of that mobo will be of little use as you are going to buy a big SSD, so stick with this board,... Also will overclock better
RAM - As you will be overclocking, you would need a faster RAM
Gigabyte Z68 - UD4 + GSKillz 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

SSD- The OCZ SSDs though are pretty fast, but there are many users reporting firmware issues,... So it would be better if you check whether they are fixed and then go for them,... Else get 2 of these in RAID 0, which will perform very fast,...
Crucial M4 64GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

DATA HDD - Same

CASE - Some other good options -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Graphics card - No doubt the GTX 580 is the fastest single chip out there, but why not go with say GTX 560Ti/ GTX 570 SLI ??
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
So enjoy full graphic settings for now and later on when you feel the need for more graphical power, there would be much faster graphic for less, then you can replace to those,...

PSU - Corsair 850HX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

CPU Cooler - The hyper 212+ is good but overrated in newegg,...Get any of these instead,... Will perform as good or better

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Total - Should come ~$1840 with RAID 0 SSDs, GTX 570 SLI,...

Thank you for the response. Some further questions:

MOBO: I understand why the SSD feature of my original board would be wasted. Ill take your suggested mobo.

SSD: Ill look into the firmware issues with the SSD before purchasing. I would rather have one single large SSD then 2 small ones in raid 0.

Case: I like the case that I picked out as it is a bit smaller. My only concern is, will it be able to fit 2 GTX5xx cards?

GPU: My plan with the GPU was to only by 1 now, and then add a second card later in SLI when games require it. How do 2x570 in SLI compare to a single 580? If they are similarily priced and similar in performance, wouldnt it be better to get the SINGLE card since you can put it in SLI later, rather then have to completely replace 2 cards?

PSU: Why choose the corsair over mine? If I plan on running 2 GTX580s in the future, is 850w enough power? I saw somewhere else that 900+ was needed for 2 of them, and 1K is reccommended

Cooling: I like the first one you linked, and it saves me a little money. If it performs just as well, I might as well use it.

Updating the original post with the new mobo and cooling. Still on the fence with the others

^ As for your questions -

SSD - Its upto you whether you want a single SSD or RAID, but like I said just make sure they dont have any firmware issues,... The forums on the manufacturer websites would be a good place to start checking,...

CASE - Smaller ?? I dont think so,... The Corsair 600T is a BIG mid tower,... It can actually fit even 3 cards,... So GTX 5xx SLI will be no issue,...
http://reviews-tests.com/computer_cases/Corsair/600T_CC...

GPU - More than me saying, you can take a look at these articles,...
GTX 570 SLI
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-revie...
GTX 560 Ti SLI
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-560-ti-sli-re...
A pair of 570s would be ~$650 -> ~$170 more,...
A pair of 560 Tis would be ~$460 -> ~$20 less,...
Also not to leave out AMD here,...
HD 6950 2GB
- The 2GB would be advantageous when setting High- Very high details and enabling AA @high resolutions,
This performs slightly better than 560Ti,...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Anyways the the GTX 580 is fast enough for most of the current games @1080p,...
So you decide,...
