Usb ports have stopped working

Are you using Windows 7?

If so....

Go to Start > Right clock on my computer and choose Properties.

On the left of the screen choose Device Manager

On the bottom of the list should be Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Right click on all of them and choose properties.

go to the Driver tab on the top of the window

Click on uninstall.

Repeat on all the items under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers.

If that doesn't work go to HP's support website and download the chipset drivers for your specific computer.

I'm sorry - I tried that, and it didn't work. I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 - 7 years old and running Windows 7 - and I tried this suggestion. It did not work. I also tried going to the HP support website: they have no support for dv8000s that run Windows 7. They have support for XP and Vista but not Windows 7. I've tried removing and reinserting the battery; moving the flash drive from one port to another; using a brand-new flash drive. None of these options works. It looks like I'm going to have to take the computer in to the shop.
