Does it matter what computer power cable

The power supply recently went on my dads computers and im looking to buy him a new one. However im always on my laptop and never on the computer so I really have no idea what power supply to buy. I looked on ebay and found one for £3 alough im guessing it's the wrong thing or it's going to be crap. Sorry if I seem like an idiot I have no idea about this.

They're pretty much universal,have a look at the old one.
It will have info on it such as AWG etc.
As long as you get the same gauge you'll be fine.
It's the power cable right? not the unit.
