USB 3.0 ON P6X58D-E

Hello,

What kind of speeds are you guys getting with this motherboard using USB 3.0?

The max I've seen is 97mb/s. But more typically I get around 70mb/s. Is there anything that I can do to improve this?

Specs:
P6X58D-E
WD 2TB USB 3.0
1TB WDC WD10
Windows 7

  1. Totally depends on what you're copying, if most of the files are small then use the eSATA, big files it's going to be close between USB 3.0 and eSATA. Keep in mind the mechanical HDD is the about 100MB/s~130MB/s* in long transfers using the Intel ICH10R controller.

    /edit * assuming a 7200RPM HDD, 5400RPM HDD's are slower.
  2. I see, yes 7200RPM 64mb cache

So I guess I am getting nearly max. Let's say I'm copying a large 10GB single file. I would get between 70mb-90mb/s.

So I guess there is nothing I can do to improve it.

Here's a very good video - 5:18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJc7eT-rw4o and yes larger file will be faster (Queue Depth). Your performance is typical so nothing is wrong.
