I am trying to build a low cost HTPC. Mostly for over the air tv, netflix/hulu, pvr, movie storage and dvd/bluray playback. I have been buying pieces as I see them on sale.

Purchased so far:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... psu

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... wifi adapt

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... case

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... memory

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... os

I am planning to buy:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml... mobo and

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml... cpu bundle $117.98

2Tb HD prob Hitachi 5k3000 or samsung f3 or f4

blu ray player, any recommendations?? preferably with playback software

hauppage HVR-2250 tv tuner

And finally to my question, I am leaning toward the HD5450 gpu. 512MB on sale for about $20 and 1GB often only $25. Is the 1GB a bad idea due to heat or power consumption? I might be persuaded to the I3-2100 but have no idea which mobo I would use. I prefer full size ATX boards. I appreciate your thoughts and comments on any portion of ths build.

Hi there, welcome to the forums.

Nice setup! I like it.

But about the 5450. It really doesn't matter, since you won't be gaming at high resolutions anyway. Seriously, putting 1GB on a card like the 5450 is just a sham. Get the 512MB, save yourself $5.

And also, why full size ATX? That's a very large HTPC. I would personally go microATX, but whatevs.

As a second time system builder I like a big case for my big clumsy hands I guess... and I already bought the case on sale. Thanks for your thoughts

Why not just use the onboard 880G? Are you planning to do 3D blu-ray or bitstream HD audio?

I didn't know the onboard would be sufficient. No 3D or bitstream audio for now, so I guess I can save the gpu money and put it toward a wireless keyboard. Can always do a gpu later if needed. Thanks for the info !!
