Dual monitors

Couple of questions I need answeres to:

1) I have 2 GTX 470s in SLI config. I just purchased a second monitor. Can I connect each monitor, via mini HDMI, to each of the graphic cards - or do I have to connect both monitors to the same card?

2) for some reason, when my system is booting up, I no longer see any of the information scrolling by on the monitor screen - none of that bios or other system information shows, I just turn on my computer and and I do not see anything on my monitor until I have to sign into windows. My question is - what's up with that? is there some bios imput that I need to turn on or off or does this matter at all? Everything works, I am just wondering.

Appreciate any info on this stuff.

My guess would be no. However the cheapest alternative would be to just buy a dvi to hdmi cable/adater. They can be found pretty cheap on amazon. I used a dvi to hdmi cable for my htpc.
