Crysis Warhead runs at a good framerate but it frequently crashes, when I lower the detail in-game textures disappear, even lowering the resolution that the game's optimal settings doesn't help. Worse yet, the game caused artifacting to appear all over my screen which affected all other games on my PC until I restarted.
Is this a driver issue, GPU overheating issue or a PSU issue? I just got the computer from Dell and it came with a 460W power supply Core i7-2600 and 8GB of RAM. I haven't overclocked anything on my computer and I can play Fallout: New Vegas and Unreal Tournament 3 at maximum settings without any issues.
A 5670 isn't much of a gaming card. More for watching movies or playing 7+ year old games.
The tearing.... you may need to turn on vsync in the games control panel or in ATI's CCC.
Go into the CCC and make sure settings are set to "let application decide". Move sliders to "performance". Enable triple buffering.
When you lower settings not everything that is there will be rendered by your video card. Just the way it is.
Dell kinda blows for value vs product vs money. You really need to upgrade your video card but will be held back by the amperage of the power supply....... and what res ?
I don't know if Warhead is patched. Steam usually auto-patches. Also, I clicked my driver in device manager and searched for driver updates and nothing came up. I've seen youtube vids of people playing with the same card as me when they had inferior RAM and CPUs so I'm pretty sure that my card is good for a three year old game since it runs New Vegas just fine. The driver version says that it's version 8.792.0.0 is there a newer version?
Also, I heard that Warhead has issues with newer drivers. Could these be the issues described?
Turns out that even though Steam installed patches for New Vegas, didn't download the patch and there is a new ATI driver. Crysis Warhead says that my system settings can push the gamer up to "gamer" settings and 720 resolution so IDK what's wrong. I'll tray again later tonight after my comp has been off for a few hours.
I figured out what the issue is. I need to run the game in 64-bit mode. That's why I'm getting a good frame rate but constant crashes. I already downloaded the patch and now I just need to download one more file for the Steam version so I can stop the constant crashing and artifacting
