I have the same odd problem from this thread, http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/282545-28-replacing-c...

I'm trying to find a compatible power supply, or perhaps a workaround so as to be able to install a graphics card into this computer.

If I have to get a non-atx power supply then that's a pain in the ass but workable, but so far what I've discovered is that this apparently OEM motherboard won't accept any PSU that isn't manufactured specifically for it, meaning I can't upgrade or modify my computer one bit.

If this is actually the case then I'll just never buy an HP again, but I'll have to return the one I do have and I don't have an unlimited amount of time in which to do that, so a quick answer would be appreciated.

More about : power supply compatible compaq 8100 elite

@dirtyfeet learn to read, he said it was a compaq 8100 elite in the title.

@xenogfan43 is this a slim tower? if so it uses a micro-atx power supply. there isnt much choice in the micro-atx world, but this one is about the best i can find http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite...

well you will have to get a power supply that has the other pins as well like a copal of 4 pin's plugs for the motherboard as well and what ever you need for your graphics card .but if you don't want it to sit on the outside you might want to look at this p/s its a (z400-475w ) and you can use that adaptor with it as well

you can buy an adaptor on ebay all though the power supply won't fit inside your pc it . it will run your pc and every thing in it so here is the link to that adaptor http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ATX-24Pin-to-6Pin-Power-Cabl...

gigdog, the said adapter cable is for the HP Z220 Z230 SFF. Have you tried this cable on the HP Elite 8000 series PC? Has anyone?
