When the four heroes meet the "good" half of the Emperor at the end of
Soul of Rebirth, why don't they forgive him? Why can't he be genuinely
sorry for what his "evil" half has done?
The best answer I can come up with is that the "good" half isn't really
good, since he's let monsters run wild through his palace and dropped
the heroes and and other rebels in such a dangerous environment merely
so they can journey to him and "forgive" him. But then why do the
heroes need to see the fight against the "evil" half to finally be
persuaded to fight the "good" half? Does the coincidence that the
fight against the "evil" half is going on right then make them think
that forgiving the "good" half will somehow give him the power to help
the "evil" half? Or can the "good" half see the fight, and does the
fact that he doesn't apologize for it convince the heroes that he
doesn't really regret what the "evil" half is doing?
I'm not sure the game gives a definitive answer (odd for a video game),
but it would be interesting to hear what other people think.
