Intel i5 or i7?

I'm purchasing a cpu this weekend but I need help on which to get. It's for gaming.

I heard the only difference between the two processors is hyper-threading.

Which should I buy the i5 or i7?

unless you plan to build a top of the line rig with top tier cards in SLI/CF, you won't notice any real world difference with a i5 CPU

For general computing and gaming, the i5 is plenty. If your going to be doing a lot of video rendering, or other cad type stuff, then go for the i7.

For gaming? i5 is good enough.
I would save money on CPU and invest more on GPU.

the i5-2500k will get you just as good frame rates as the i7-2600k for $100 less. That money is better spent on a SSD or a better GPU.
