How important are motherboards?

I have recently pondered creating a new computer with:

Processor - $205
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-2500K-Processor-1155/dp/B004EBUXHQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I2UJ3IZH3DZX44

Hard Drive - $105
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2-5-Inch-Solid-State-CT128M4SSD2/dp/B004W2JKZI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I24H3A3CYC9TC2

Case - $60
http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Tower-Case-RC-912-KKN1/dp/B003ZM7YTA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I1CQ1HT0EKLQSH

Disk Drive - $17
http://www.amazon.com/Asus-24xDVD-RW-Serial-Internal-DRW-24B1ST/dp/B0033Z2BAQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I1X0JBEBPAMLW2

RAM - $50
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=IT4LDP16GGENO

Power Supply - $60
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Certified-Compatible-Platforms-CMPSU-600CXV2/dp/B004W2T2UQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I3VVXHNZ76MG0C
[This can be changed to a higher voltage one if any of you thinks so, I won't be overclocking out of the box, but might later in the future]

My question is how good does a motherboard have to be? The current one I am going to be using is a
Gigabit one:

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-CrossFireX-NVIDIA-Motherboard-GA-Z77X-UD5H/dp/B007R21JK4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=RZUEK4NGX0QI&coliid=I2WLXTPR0BW1IB

Which was recommended to me by someone on these forums, But wouldn't this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128498

Work just as well? All I'm really looking for in a motherboard is built in soundcard (not the best) support for my RAM, usb 2.0, dont need 3.0, hdmi outlet, and ethernet outlet. I would also appreciate if it would be compatible with a good graphics card (yet to be found.)Thanks ahead of time.

    U can definitely use this one -> ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 -> ... Latest Z77...

I just build PC with this mobo and I like the BIOS, its looks like this.

    Works as expected @ 4.4GHz

That is a great mobo choice for the CPU. It has good power design for OC.

    ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX

I like this a lot, is it futureproof? by the looks of it it seems so, but I'm not sure, also do you know a good graphics card/dual cards to go with this that can run minecraft, total war, civ, or maybe even bf3 well?
  4. That is the latest Z77 chipset mobo. It is fine for your CPU.

This CPU would give u the latest. Its also faster than the great 2500K.

    http://www.amazon.com/Intel-3570K-Processor-cores-BX80637I53570K/dp/B007SZ0E1K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1341897539&sr=1-1&keywords=3570k
  5. The 3570K is newer and slightly better than the 2500K.

And it supports new features, like wireless HDMI and few more.
  6. MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

    $239.99

  7. With this u can play anything with high quality.
  8. And the PSU would be just fine too.
  9. Oh my god, I was contemplating the same one just before you replied to this!

I like this case (because I can put a ridiculous amount of fans on it but it appears that having too many fan vents leads to it not being able to use a disk drive, unfortunately I need a disk drive :./

  13. What about, using less fans and install the water cooler?
  14. It would cost about the same, and CPU cooling would be little better.
  15. Good luck!
  16. Well, I'm not sure about a water cooler, this is my first time build of a pc and I have little to no experience with water coolers, and I've seen (please don't crucify me for saying this) that the before mentioned fan actually cools less than a water cooler, I'm just scared about the water cooler touching the cpu (not because of the water cooler but because of me screwing it up) Fans however are pretty simple, does the case I mentioned not have enough slots for the fans?
  17. BTW, there is great discount on one part u should have.

    The SSD.

BTW Nikorr since you're the most helpful person on this thread (and this whole site) I was wondering if you could also help me with the name of the bay that goes in the front, with sd card slot and the usb card slots? I don't know what that's called :D
  24. nikorr said:

Yeah something like that, but do they make ones that have usb slots and w/o floppy disk? Also, how does this work, do you plug in the usb from that to the usb slot on the motherboard?
  25. Ahh, I see, also I feel really stupid but the case offers all the ports I need for free :p one last question, and I promise this is the last one (sorry to have taken up so much of your time) But when I get the fans, should the air flow move out or move in? or a mix of the two?
  26. Depends on case and location of the fans. I have an Antec P180 and 1 in 3 out : )
  27. I can't thank you enough Nikorr, you've been extremely helpful, when I finish my comp I'll be sure to send you a picture of it :D thanks again
  28. Yeah, send me one : )

    Good luck!
