500 watt power supply in a 305 watt system

can anyone tell me if replacing a 305 watt power supply in a dell 4700 with a 500 watt would be okay ?

    i believe some dells use a Proprietary powersupply. so you need to know for certain if the replacement is 100% compatible

    its not like most other pcs where you can stick any psu in--unfortunately i dont know which model dells use this--so you may need to look on dell support to find out

    but i would be cautious of anyone saying of course you can stick any psu you want in unless they really know for a fact that model isnt Proprietary
