GT440 on Dell 300 w psu

Is it worth trying GT440 on original dell 531 300watt bestec (before buying new CX430 Psu) or might it do damage due to not enough amps on 12v rail?

Based on these number http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GT_440/24.html I belief it would run on the Bestec, first thing you would notice is instability before damage.

Good review site just not too keen on the conclusion but i think case is too small for gts 450 and GT440 i assume is alot better than 8600gt!!

That is 216watts which is going to be close to your total consumption under load. The first thing that will fail is the PSU. Yes the 440 is a good upgrade from 8600GT.

If the PSU fails can that harm the rest of the system?? or is just a matter of changing it over??

I do a bit of CAD at home too and like the stability of Nvidia so will stick with them i think.

So i 'll change PSU and get GT 440 ........... or do i really want to push the boat and get GTS 450 but risk it not fitting in case.......

ARRRRGGG!!!!!! i cant decide!!!!!

Since you are getting a new PSU anyway then you will be happier with the GTS450! Get out the measuring tape and figure out if it fits.
