Hi I am going to build a new computer for mostly just gaming and was wondering if all of these were compatible and good for a budget gaming computer:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Graphics Card: MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
Optical Drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner
PSU: Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2

Look any good and will all work together?

Thanks in advance.

that MSI edition card is waaayy overpriced at $124.99 after rebates, this would be a better choice at about the same level of performance for $69 (the Zotac GTS450):

apart from that, the Antec you've chosen is great, but these would be a good choice to (and able to handle your system fine):

corsair CX500:

even an Antec 430 would do fine:

also is that 1333Mhz ram? beucase the price difference beetween 1333 and 1600 doesn't seem like much right now.

i definetely wouldn't call it a weak card, it can play most games today on max settings @1080p. (

I can be a bit flexible on the graphics card costs, thinking in the area of very high settings on WoW, Starcraft 2, and will at least do ok in the long term unless I have a new card by then (Diablo 3 specifically)

am3+ board? mostly gaming? buy a PII X2 555, many are unlockable, all are overclockable. when bulldozer comes out, upgrade to a bulldozer chip.

otherwise, for a budget gaming rig, id have to suggest an i3 2100 based machine.

edit: the money saved by going to the X2 can be put into a better video card. my vote would be 6850

Personally I like the OPs original build the way it is :)

I think it is a good choice of parts

I wouldnt change it unless the budget goes higher

as Supermucher85 asked the resolution is important
but for up to 1920x1080 the HD 5770 is a good deal at that price
the MSI Hawk is worth the extra few bucks
