Hey I'm buying the Asus M5A99X EVO & FX-8150 will this motherboard be compatible with the processor straight out of the box? Or will the bios need updating?

  1. There's no guarantee with ANY AM3+ that it will have the necessary minimum BIOS to post unless you can see the box and verify the BIOS is the minimum for an FX CPU to post.

I see very few issues with pre-FX BIOS and the ASUS M5A99X EVO is a high volume seller so places like NewEgg would have sold out of the pre-FX BIOS b now.
  2. Ok mate thanks for the reply. Is there a way for me to find out without putting the whole thing together first? And is there an easy way to update the bios? Or will I need an older amd chip?
  3. ASUS places a BIOS version sticker either on the BOX itself next to the SN or on the bottom of the MOBO close to CPU backplate SN + BIOS revision.

    /edit - you need BIOS 0813 (2011.11.16 update) or higher - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO/#CPUS
