Bang for buck gaming cpu question

Hello,
I'm going to build a gaming rig out of my old hp desktop. What is a better processor for cheapest price? (if im not bottlenecking anywhere else)
amd phenom 3.4 quad core or intel i5 dual core, or a 2.6-2.8 quad core i5?
also im looking to play bf3 and maybe games to come in next year or two. thx

the amd phenom II 3.4 is 140$ and a i5-2500k is 220 if i go amd will it rlly lose by more than 20+ frames in a game benchmark?
also if i go i5-2300 will it be better than the amd phenom?
