Hello,
I'm trying to do an upgrade to my PC and stumbling a bit on what cards are the most current and best in this realm.

I've been looking at the Nvidia GT440 and GT430 as well as the AMD HD5570...

There's a few places I'm stumbling, first off the wealth of similar model numbers is confusing at best. I'm also not sure if the PS can even run any of these cards.

I also noticed that AMD is coming with the 6xxx cards to replace the 5770 and 5750, so since I'm not in dire need, would it be worthwhile to wait for those?

like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Basically, I'm looking for the best LP card I can get, that this computer can handle, and the cost isn't really an object since there's so little that can be done with this size card.

We need your exact computer specs! Your budget too.

AMD did something very strange with their numbering scheme this past generation (6xxx). Instead of the usual 4870 being replaced by the 5870, the 5870 was replaced by the 6970 and the 5850 by the 6950, with the 6990 being the dual-gpu successor to the 5970. AMD claims to have done this because they didn't want the 5770 and 5750 to be "replaced," as they wanted to keep those cards in the lineup. Stupid idea at best. The 6570 is definitely not as powerful as the 5750. You may be thinking of the 6750 and 6770, but I think they might be intended as OEM cards. I could be wrong, though.

Think of the lineup as this: 5670/6570 < 5750 & 5770 < 6850 & 6870 < 6950 & 6970

I'm guessing the most important spec is the PSU, since that's what it hinges upon primarily...

I'm at work right now, so no access to the exact specs... but in general, it's a Core II duo, 1.5 TB's HD, 4 GB's ram (DDR2 PC2-6400), PCIe 16x, not sure on 2.0/.1... and that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

As far as price, I really don't have a limit. Just the best card this old box can run...

I'm somewhat tempted to get a new case & PSU so I'm not limited with the LP cards or by wattage...but this is technically my girlfriends computer, and I'm pretty sure she would NOT be OK with that...

go for an Ati radeon HD 6670 or 6650 these are low profile and very powerful.
