My computer is around 2~3 years old, so I wanted to get an upgrade on its parts if I could. I just don't have the money for a new gaming computer. The thing is, I don't know what I should upgrade. So that's why I need help. Here are my specs
Operating System: Windows Vista Business
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3400 series
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
Power Supply: 350 watts
32 bit operating system
I wish to play Crysis on the highest settings. Is that too far-fetched, considering my specs? What should I replace to play Crysis?
To play Crysis at the highest settings I would get a new computer With Windows 7 64bit. However you did say you didn't have the money for a new computer. You forgot to list your motherboard and hdd. You have to realize that what you have is fine for buisness but not for gaming. At the very least you need to upgrade the video card , the ram , the power supply and the operating system. We don't know about the MB and HDD , but if you can safely overclock your cpu over 3ghz , you can avoid upgrading it. In the end you may have to settle for just being able to play Crysis at all.
We have no idea what board you use. But even a PCIE 1.0 will run a 2.1 card if there has been a bios update at least up-til December 2010. Do the following for Crysis. I am assuming a full HD display.
1. Buy a 560Ti or a 6950 atleast.
2. Switch to a 64 bit operating system. So you will be able to add more Ram.
3. Your PSU is extremely deficient. Pick up at least a corsair HX 520 or upwards to power it.
4. Overclock using a cheap cooler like a hyper 212x.
A lot of guys use quads with a 6970 and performance is pretty good. What resolution do you game at and what mother board do you have? Let us know.
the graphics card and the PSU are the 2 things that need changing, the CPU is fine despite what others say, the gfx card is much more important. the PSU needs changing to support a higher power gfx card.
