MB Upgrade HELP

So I am on my 2nd Asrock extreme3 gen3 z68 motherboard and am having power issues and USB freezing issues, I am sick of it and am going to purchase a new board from a different company. I am wondering what you experienced users think of the Asus P8Z77-V LK...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837
I have a Sandybridge i5 2500k and will be using that for quite some time until I feel an actual need to upgrade. However I might as well buy a z77 board because it is newer than the z68 and still supports Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge. Please if you have any better suggestions on boards in the $150 range...much appreciated.

  3. Wonderful, it is z68, however what about the Z77 asus board...wouldnt it make more sense to upgrade to the z77 because it is the newest chipset though? or is that board simpley not good.
  4. Not really, your SB CPU will not take advantage of that board more than Z68 features.

This mobo is much better than the one u posted. It has 12+4 phases, much better for OC.
  5. In less than a year, there is new Intel CPU coming, Haswell and it is 15-30% faster that IB CPU.
  6. will it be z77 or nobody knows yet?
  7. No, whole new thing. Bigger too.
  8. ok im going to go with the board you posted thank you very much for your info and time, its much appreciated good sir!
  9. if it is DOA im going to blame you! Lol j/k
  10. U'll love that mobo.
  11. BTW, Haswell might use the 2011 socket.

  12. Check the size difference : ))

  13. oh jeeze i guess the trend or fad must be over of getting cpu's as small as possible.
  14. In 20 years. lol
  15. Nikor if you are still there, do you have any idea what size hexagonal wrench the Hyper 212 bolts are? I lost mine and being it on a motherboard I am not about to attempt and use a random wrench to get my mounts off. Anyway of finding out what size that is so i can go to local auto store and buy a tool of that size?
  16. No, I don't know. But check the manual for the cooler, it should say it in there.
  17. hmm maybe if i can find it online, i dont have the manual either lol
  18. Sorry, its not there.

Don't u have at home any of these?

  19. yeah i have allen wrenches, i thought it was a special hex wrench socket that fit over top of the nut, ill look again.
  20. I don't remember that.
  21. I used the tools packed with it.

Hate to call you out Nikorr, but Haswell will be on LGA 1150.

That all right, I am not giving advice now, just a guess for now : )

I am glad that they decided on more power use, that is all I like for now.

Even possible 180W TDP for the Haswell.
  25. Nikorr how much ram do you have on that motherboard and do you use the coolermaster hyper 212? this Asrock motherboard, the hyper 212 covers 1 of my dimms so i cant utilize it
  26. This one will fit fine, ..

I recommend CORSAIR Vengeance 99% of the time, quality RAM and low profile with XMP profile.
And if u will get an aftermarket CPU cooler, low profile is the worry free remedy with perfect fit with any large cooler.
    CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233198
Vengeance Low Profile heat spreaders have a reduced height of 1.03" (26.25mm). They're designed for high-performance systems with extra-large CPU coolers, small form factor system builds, or any other space-constrained application where standard Vengeance memory might not fit.
  27. Or 8GB

    CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
