Hi folks,
I have a Hewlett Packard iMedia M838 system with a GA-8SIML motherboard http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/mb/specs/ga-8siml.html, now I want to know if I can install 2 x 1Gb DDR 400 RAM sticks in to this board.

I have read that theoretically you can put a ddr 400 ram stick into a board with memory slots that only support ddr 266.

But when I try that, the computer reboots constantly or freezes. Please help me as this is my first time helping someone with repairs and I'm new to this computer repair thing.

Cheers :na:

I only say that because I've read in other forums that you can make the swap because you only sacrifice speed ie: ddr 400 running at a lower speed of 266Mhz, is this correct?

I get what you're saying abekl and thanks for the quick reply, like I said I'm a newbie when it comes to pc repair so I appreciate any help I can get. So is it fair to say that because of the voltage differences between the two would that be the cause of my rebooting and freezing problems. I'd just like to know for any future repairs I might come across. oh and is there NO way that I can use the DDR 400 (PC3200) RAM in this motherboard
