I'm running an x2 4000+ with 4 gb of 667ghz ddr2. Right now I have an 8800gs, but was thinking of stepping up to something better. I'd like to be able to do 1920 x 1080 @ high/ultra settings. Mostly DoW2 Retribution or SCII level graphics, but maxed out Diablo III when that's out...

On the other hand, I'm willing to settle with what I have now and get a new system in a year or so if my CPU just can't keep up with a reasonable upgrade. Upgrading the CPU won't be worthwhile on this MB.

I would go with on the other hand option.

Your current PC won't be able to support modern video cards except the low end ones and if you want to play games like you specified i suggest you rise some money and buy a new PC. Keep this one for media playing and browsing the world wide web.

Core i52500.
h67 motherboard with B3 bios.
4Gb of RAM at 1333Mhz CL7 or 1600Mhz cl7 or cl8
.5 to 1Tb HDD7200rpm
6950 video card
650w PSU
DVD-RW asus
Case 50-80$

All that should be around 1k$ or under 1k euro.
