AMD phenom2 vs bulldozer for new build (Media works)

one of my friend has a rig with sabertooth board, and he is planning to replace his processor for hd media editing, He is planning to buy latest bulldozer fx 8150, but i suggested him a phenom 2 1100t,1090t and even for budget price a Phenom2 x4 965 black edition processor, because all his apps will use less than 4 cores, and he does not crank up much oc, only he uses his pc for Rendering 1080p content in 2d and 3d, and he does lot of work in cad, he is not a gamer. Budget for processor is $250.

am I suggested a decent performing processors or not!

P.s. he got sabertooth from my other friend.his old rig is an athlon based.

My preference for him is 965 x4 cause it will do all his needs, but he asked best in the crowd price range below $250

x2 555 BE then unlock the extra cores if money is an issue otherwise a x4 970 BE will be great and overclocks well.

All phenom II cpu's have 3D now! instruction sets.

nope, only some specific models have that instruction.

but apart from that, yes, go the phenom II range, either 4 or 6 core, whatever the budget allows. I wouldn't touch bulldozer. We need to let AMD know that we dont want to buy that crap so they will hurry up and fix it.

and k6-2 is lol , cause k6-2 are dead already, and i am pushing him to buy 1100t, and all his apps are 64bit.
