I7 and Dominator CL9 RAM

Hello,

I've got an i7 @ 4.1GHz with 8GB (4x2) Dominator DDR in a P8P67 Pro mobo.

When it comes to certain games, one game in particular (Mortal Online (all my settings are on low), I get (almost constant) small freezes. My FPS is sky high, but then the FPS drops down to ~1 and freezes for 1-2 seconds, and then jumps back to over 150. My GFX is an ASUS GTX570. I don't believe it to be my GFX, because I suppose the FPS should be constantly low or gfx errors/colours on my screen.

Anyhow, I'm thinking maybe my RAM settings are wrong in BIOS. I've set the voltage and timings to the recommended values (1.65v and 9-9-9-24). But what should my "command rate" be at: 1t or 2t? Does this make any difference? This PC is for games 89% of the time.

Are there any other BIOS settings or settings otherwise, that I could try to help the freezes?

My system is also 100% up2date with the newest drivers.

Thanks in advance,
A. Thomsen

1.65v and 9-9-9-24 should be fine

they may even go lower-my patriots are at 7-7-7-21 and 1t command rate

but as you are having problems you need to fix that before trying tighter timings

try setting 2t command rate

and if your antivirus has a gaming mode turn it on

Well anyone running ram in 4 slots is going to default to 2t.
The only way to get around that is with alot of tinkering in bios .
Your ram kit might not be able to even pull it off.
If you only use 2 slots your ram will run 1t.
Nature of the beast.
I doubt your ram is the issue.

1) I really doubt that ram is the cause of your "freezes"
First of all, nehalem cpu's are largely insensitive to ram speeds or timings. It might make a 1-2% difference, but that is all.
You have sufficient ram for any game.
You could check it out with memtest86+ to see if possibly you are getting intermittent errors.

2) Where else could the problem lie?
Do you have any malware , viruses, or the like?
Are you running any started taske you can't recognize?
Is an antivirus kicking in?(Microsoft security essentials is very low impact)

3) Check the hard drive SMART data. Are you possibly going through hard drive error recovery?

doesnt matter how many slots you are using--i am using 1600mhz 6 x 2gb at 7-7-7-21 1t command rate at 4.2ghz on i7-920

what cpu voltage are you using for your overclock? and what qpi/vtt voltage?

i am also using the asus direct cu gtx 570--try running unigine benchmark to check the graphics card--is it only online games that have a problem?

I've got no virsus or malware. I'm using MS Security Essentials.

My SMART data isnt collecting anything suspicious.

Yes, I do get freezes with CPU stock speeds.

I only get these freezes in Mortal Online. I sometimes get FPS lag in Dawn of war 2 (when a lot is happening on screen), but I'm playing on Ultra settings.

Is the game cpu intensive? The data is already in your cpu cache so dont see how ram can be the culprit with graphics. What happens when you set all your settings to high?

Nothing much, skill high FPS but freezes. I'm guessing its MO, but the tricky things is that not all of my guildies have this problem. Some are not experiencing any freeze... :(

my asus direct cu gtx570 is at 1.088v -849mhz core and 4400mhz memory--with no problems at all

havent run unigine for a while but will download and run it to give you a comparision

dont know why it wont let me edit but heres my results

press the quick edit middle option when you edit

Go in the options and check the smooth frame rate option
Set a value i suggest setting it 62 first

thanks--whys there edit and quick edit? is there a difference then?

I've tried this, but without any luck. I've now tried disabling CPU C3 and C6 report in bios, hopefully this will work.

gnomio, I didn't have a problem on my old system with a q6600 and a GTX295. But now suspecting my harddrives + mobo (I've read about some errors with the sata controllers):

I'll be honest, all my 6 drives (2 as raid0 (system+isntalls), 2 as raid1 (critical data) and rest as normal ones (downloads etc.) have been put in random slots, I dunno what I've been thinking. Anyhows, I'm getting an intel SSD 510 next week. I'm going to put this one as system+mortal online, then the rest of the hhds for installs, data, downloads etc.

What do you guys suggest I should plug in my SSD - the intel sata 6 or marvell sata 6?
