How does the intel core i5 stack up to a intel core 2 Duo processor?

I was just wondering because I bought parallels for my macbook and it says it requires at least a intel core 2 duo processor, but my macbook pro is running an intel core i5. So I guess my real question is, "will my macbook pro support parallels 7 and windows ?"
