Framerate Drop

Forum Graphics & Displays : Nvidia Framerate Drop

Hello all, so I am experiencing a very strange issue. For some reason over-night my gaming computer stopped being able to play COD:MW2. I have two 9800gtx+s and a x4 3.4ghz.

I have been used to playing the game at 1980x1020 with the highest settings and 4x AA with 88-90fps. So this morning the game runs horrible. I get 90 fps when standing completely still, but the second I move the mouse I get 30-50fps. So I lowered all the settings to minimum with the same exact results, the frame-rate changes so much the game is unplayable.

So I tried re-seating my cards, replugging the power, reinstall COD, and installing the latest drivers to no avail.

Now I started up 3dmark Vantage I only get 10-30fps at 1980x1020 depending on how fast things are moving. I set it to High preset and ran again. This gave me an overall score of H9294: CPU score 35k, GPU score only 8228! If I again turn it down to Performance presets I get a GPU score of 12k.

One guy on here posted that with one of these cards he got 15k, and two brought him up to 16k.

I am now at a loss, I can not play my favorite game at any setting when yesterday I could play at 90fps.

So do you guys/girls(maybe) think this is hardware failure? I do have lifetime warranty on both cards :)

My set up is:
Phenom II x4 3.4ghz(no oc, yet) w/ a giant noctua cooling
2x 9800gtx+ 512mb 256-bit interface 738hmz core(stock) w/ extra 90mm fan on the back
4gb of Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600hmz 7 Cas
1200w BFG Power Supply
2x 500gb 32mb cache 7200rpm hard drives in striped raid
XCLIO Windtunnel Case
Windows 7 x64

Sounds like a card issue to me. I would defiantly test each card separably to see which one is failing. You probably will need to replace one of the two cards. Good that they have warranties.

IF both cards are ok, then something has happened to your SLI connection/ability.

Ok so I tested each card by themselves. I ran Vantage performance preset, I got about 6500 from each of them. I guess that is normal for this card. I will try maybe a new sli bridge?

What driver version are you using? A new one came out not to long ago. If something automatically installed the newest drivers (maybe Windows Update), you will have to renable SLI in the Nvidia control panal. Regardless of if that did or didn't happen, install the latest drivers and make sure SLI is enabled in the Nvidia control panal.

My drivers are 270.61 beta. So it turns out this is a CoD:MW2 issue only. They must have a released a patch that doesn't like my drivers or something. I purchased a brand new GTX460 1gb and I get the same horrible performance from that game, but I can now turn portal 2 all the up at 1680 and get a steady 60fps. Also my 9800s were on par cause the GTX460 brought my 3dmark score up about 2k from the 9800s in SLI. I know this is probably the wrong section now, but any ideas for fixing CoD?

Turns out this was an automatic update from Logitech for my MX1100 mouse. I uninstalled setpoint and the problem went away.
