Dell Studio XPS 7100

Hey, all –

I want to put 16GB of RAM in the above machine. Is there anything unusual with it? I've used generic RAM in a couple of other Dell machines successfully, but I had a problem with the first set of 4x4 that I tried (BSOD: "Page fault in unpaged area" after maybe a half an hour). They were DDR3, PC3-10666, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V, Non-ECC, 240-pin DIMMs. Being a novice, what am I missing, or do I have a defective module?

Thanks for any (polite ; - ) feedback...

  1. Have you read the specs for your machine where it details the ram configuration needed? Does your ram match?

OK then. The only thing I can think of is that you have a bad stcick of ram. Run memtest86+ on your memory and report back here whether you got any errors.
  3. Yep, it was a bad stick (brand new Corsair XMS3). Thanks, I thought maybe I had missed something.
