Sub $1000 gaming pc, first time builder, need the OK
flashconnor
I just made a newegg wishlist of parts for my dozer-ready, under $1000 dollar gaming build. This will be my first attempt at building a computer.
I really would appreciate if the community could look over and double check to make sure everything works together perfectly. (e.g. enough fan headers, psu works with components, enough dimensions to fit components etc...)
Also I was wondering if the ddr3 1866 ram I have selected will work at that speed with the phenom ii 955 out of the box... Thanks!
Here is the list of parts:

There has been issues with 990FX boards and memory speeds so i would say it probably won't, but barring any major issues it should still work ok.
Switch the HDD to Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB about the same price for speed and reliability ( 64.99 newegg, 60 amazon )
Cool they actually got the 212+ price back down at newegg too.
Switch the PSU, the PSU you listed is in practice an expensive 550W unit. If you take a look at the plate it only supplies 550W to the 12V rails.
And while the OCZ Z series might be nice, this one really is not. Also as you seem to have room in your budget i would say that go for quality on the psu.
750W is nice if you intend to Crossfire the 6870 at somepoint.
Antec HCG-750W $94.99 ( $69.99 after rebate ) 80+ bronze
PC power & cooling silencer mkII 750W $109.99 ( $89.99 after rebate )
Corsair HX750 $149.99 ( $139.99 after rebate ) 80+ silver
Seasonic X750 $159.99 80+ gold - one of the best if not the best 750W PSU out there
There has been nice deals on the 750 psu's lately, x750 was for 129 a while back, i've seen hx750 go for 129.99 ( 109.99 after rebates ). So keep an eye out for deals on those models. The Antec does have a nice rebate deal right now. -
