i want to upgrade my cpu what i have now is a older amd x2 4600+ 940 built on asus m2a-vm motherboard my video card is a sapphire ati 3870 hd and a sound blaster live se 7.1 and a 500 watt psu i hand built the computer a few years ago it always works like new and now its time to upgrade the cpu i did look on the forms and found out i can upgarde to a newer cpu with bios upgarde what i need help with and i dont have a lot of money to work with is cpu upgrade i was thinking about going with a amd phenom x3 720 black edition tripe core or the amd phenom x4 9750 2.4 ghz i like to find out what is the best cpu to use and the x9750 and x3 720 are the same price 1.29.99 tiger direct thank you have a nice day

+1 for the X3 720...
Reason -
1. It is a 45NM CPU and the latest Phenom...
2. Better than that X4 9750 in overclocking as for the X4, it would need ACC option in the BIOS, which is only availabe with newer mobo...And X3 doesnt require the ACC for a good stable overclock and it has unlocked multiplier hence better overclock...
3. More cache

the aus m2a-vm has socket AM2 and not AM2+
is compatible this motherboard with the phenom x3 720?

look this -> click

then the cpu is not supported because it has socket AM3
:hello:

edit:
But it worked here -> click

Frankly I dont know for sure if it would work...Its better that you contact that perdon through PM and get to know what you would have to do in order for your mobo to support that AM3 CPU...
