The problem with upgrading laptop processors is the increased heat produced. From that standpoint I do not advise upgrading the processor on laptops. Laptops inherently run hot to begin with.

thanks for the info but im still looking to replace my processor as the laptop is old and for the sake of maybe £20/30 ill take my chance on the heat as i have external fans and i will apple thermal paste. What CPUs would you recommend?

Why replace the CPU at all? It doesn't wear out. Use it as-is as long as the laptop runs. Other parts in the laptop may (and will) fail but the CPU will outlast them all. Save yourself 20/30 quid!

Here is the information you will find useful: http://www.amd.com/us/products/embedded/processors/mobi...

You can replace the CPU with any CPU that will fit in the same socket and has an equal or smaller TDP. This way you will not create overheat problems in the laptop.
