I plan to upgrade to a z77 MB and i7-3770k setup next week. The PC will be used as a workstation (no gaming) but I have a couple of specific needs. I need a firewire port for video captures and because I intend to use the onboard video I need a DVI input for one of my monitors (my second monitor will connect via an HDMI adapter). Looking around it appears my options are very few. The only boards I could find with firewire and DVI are these two:
One reviewer of the AsRock says you must install a ps/2 keyboard in order to set it up initially. I haven't used a ps/2 device in years and don't have any lying around so if that's the case then this board is out.
So is there a better choice out there or should I just get the GIGABYTE?
I don't plan to overclock so that's not a factor in the MB choice.
Don't base your decision on the comment of one customer.
If the ASRock Z77 Extreme6 really required a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to enter the EFI BIOS Setup on first boot then everyone who doesn't own a PS/2 keyboard and mouse would have posted a comment mentioning that.
Legacy USB Support is enabled by default for both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports controlled by the Intel Z77 chipset so a USB keyboard and mouse should be automatically supported on first boot.
