hi,
i've been looking all day all over the internet for this but just found some vaguely related answers,so here it goes

i just bought a new samsung sa300 LED monitor, i plugged it in, started the computer, in it has some pretty ugly colors, i proceeded to update my graphics drivers(gforce9500, and nothing, i found out the monitor came with a cd with its drivers on it, so i installed them, and nothing.

i've tried it on 3 different computers with the same results, refresh rate is 60hz resolution is 1920*1080 at true 32bit color,

blacks look extremely noisy, and most of the other colors look like its on 16bit, mostly saturated reds and blues,

is the product defective?
or am i just missing something really obvious

What do you mean "pretty ugly colors"? Check your menu (on the monitor) to ensure it is set to the proper mode. I would suggest your reset to its default config (should be a selection on the menu somewhere) and work from there.

Is is certainly possible that the monitor is defective, but you need to rule out the cable first. What type of cable are you using (VGA, DVI, or HDMI)? Are you using any adapters?

Please clarify.

i tried it with 2 different vga cables, and both cables work on my old lcd monitor,
i also tried both cables with the dvi adapters on the graphics card, the adapter is working too with the lcd monitor,

the best way i can explain the colors, is that they look like if the color mode was on 16bit or 256 colors or something, but not all colors looks like that, its mostly reds and blues. some shades of gray look "redish" and 100% black looks extremely noise (like a bad "over the air" signal on an old tv) and say about 90 to 80% black looks a bit noisy but "greenish"

i reseted several times but no luck,
also, even if the pc's not connected, but the display is turned on, the colors on the "check cable" screen look just as bad, the grainy blacks are especially noticeable here

well the led monitor might be faulty, but let me tell you that with low end leds my experience has been a blue/yellow hue-fest, colors are washed out. I have returned about 4 different led monitors to frys in the past because the colors suck, they have terrible backlight bleeding. This is the nature of a TN panel, imo low end LED LCDS are not worth using for a computer monitor, the led tech works good in tvs but not in comp displays. In the end I returned all the LEDS I was even unhappy with the higher end samsung px series led lcd which costed nearly 300. After that, I just stuck with my 5 year old dell 24" LCD with 5 ms gtg response time, its the best lcd of any kind that I have tried to date and in that price range.

^ yeah I agree about the vga cable and the high res, not a good combo, I run some 720p ish monitors with vga no problem.. but anyways, the monitor may be defective..

but in the end I still think that the low end led lcds for computer monitors suck... personally I'd go for a standard lcd monitor, and like COLgeek said use a dvi or hdmi cable for the best results...

the monitor was indeed defective, i took it to the store and exchanged it for a another one, same model, i brought it home and it works great, running at 1920x1080 with vga cable, though i'll be buying a dvi cable later today
