Pay for OS updates

Last response: in Windows 8

Um no.. Why do I need some stupid tech support that will probably already tell me what I already know. Anything difficult I'd be better off using google, asking around, and/or just figuring it out myself.

O and the guy above me is right if it ever became mandatory to pay for updates (but you did say optional).

I would consider I yearly deal around the 50 to 60 dollar mark. you figure that windows get revamped about every 3 years then that would mean I would spend 180 for a copy of windows which is close enough to what you pay now. Of course throw in some cloud storage and mybe a gimped office and i think the idea is pass due.

I don't think Microsoft would ever make it mandatory, but I could see apple doing something like this as a way to increase revenue.

if they did that, i would only pay for the service for the single month that a large update came out, then refuse to continue paying till another large update was released. Though, I would probably get pissed that I would have to pay for updates. I don't update to new OS's anyways, I do fresh installs, so that aspect would be useless. I would hate it, and in actuality not ever use the service... and maybe switch entirely to something like Ubuntu
