Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards [Solved] 560 ti SLI problems

okay, my friend just built his computer and can't get his two 560s to work. (bsods and crashes and i don't think windows recognizes that both cards are there becasue he has no sli options in the control panel).

Here are his specs:
i5 2500k (not yet oced)
Asus p8p67 deluxe
2x EVGA 560 ti (this one)
2x4GB G.SKILL ripjaws x
OCZ-ZX1000W
win7

I've yet to use sli or cf so i didn't know what to try first, but i told him to try each card individually and run furmark for a few minutes on each. Both worked fine alone.

He's using the bridge and he says he installed the drivers.

Anyone know whats wrong? or what to try next?

I looked at this sli guide but it's kinda lacking (windows xp still).

Are the SLI interconnects/bridges installed properly? Also, how are his system temps running?

How do you install an sli bridge wrong? Unless i'm mistaken, it only fits one way. It's the bridge that comes with the mobo. (shown in newegg's pictures for this mobo)

His temps seem to be fine, he can run furmark without any problems with a single card. In sli, the system instability isn't only with the gpus at load, it bsods from the desktop as well.

I have seen people do all sorts of weird things with various cables and connectors. You are right, a SLI bridge should only go on one way. If the GPUs work okay in single mode and not in SLI, I would look at the drivers and the possibility of them not being installed correctly. I would use something like Driver Sweeper to completely remove the existing drivers, restart, and then install the most current drivers. I would also re-install the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard afterward.

Oh really? Why then does it make no difference which way round my ones go?

Huh? I think that is the point. My comment earlier was more in reference to generic cables/connectors and whether the SLI connector was in place at all via the OP. WOO HOO!!!

You said an SLi bridge should only go on one way, which way is that exactly?

I admit that I am a slow dull child and I must be missing some key point here. Yes, a SLI bridge can only go one way. I think that was cleared up and discussed earlier.

That being said, I (and I sure others) have seen all sorts of odd things like folks trying to connect monitors to serial ports, folks try to substitute a CF interconnect for a SLI connector. Folks have tried connecting an ATI GPU to a Nvidia GPU and any number of odd things.

So, aside from that, please enlighten me.

Oh, I get it now....left to right....or is it right to left.....I forget.

If it could only go on one way then it would be 'keyed' in the same way that a molex connector or HDMI connector is keyed but it isn't thus it doesn't matter which way round it goes.

True enough, but I have seen where folks didn't push all the way onto the golden fingers because of a tight/dirty/dusty fit as well, resulting in the connector not really being connected.

Aight, i'm resurrecting this and reverting it back to my op.

My friend rmaed his mobo (with the sli bridge) and they sent him a different one. Still doesn't work.

Basically both gpus work solo but not in sli and the problem isn't the bridge or the mobo.

The only thing i can think of is drivers (maybe he's doing something wrong). I don't live close to him so i can't just go over and do it myself.

Anyone have any ideas? Does evga have decent customer support? maybe he could get a step by step from them over the phone.

Refer your friend to this thread. Also, make sure he downloads and installs the current drivers, as well as his mobo chipset drivers.

As you marked this thread as solved, perhaps it's time to get your friend to join up as this relaying thing could drag on for ages.
