CPU not working with computer that it SHOULD work with

So I have this computer:

PSU: Corsair ~500W (Good'un)
GPU: Radeon HD 6870

...it works with this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116039

...but not with an E6600. I know the E6600 is fine because I tested it on another computer. Both CPU's are LGA 775 and are supported by the motherboard and RAM, so I don't know what's up. The BIOS is also version 0037, and the required version for an E6600 is 0024, so that's fine. The biggest hint is a 3 beep code, which Intel's website says is a memory problem. I have yet to test different memory in the computer, but it should work, shouldn't it? The computer is running Windows 7 (32 bit). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try just one stick of ram at a time in the slot closest to the cpu; one stick could be bad. Then run memtest and see if you get errors.

There only is one stick and it works with the Celeron. But I'm going to try another stick next time I can.

You do have a stange problem; hard to say why the e6600 won't run on the board; could be a board issue and not the ram. Or it could be that the e6600 only runs with ddr2; you'll need someone else to chime in; I used a celeron 430 for awhile with ddr2. But whatever you do, don't try ddr2 in your board; it will damage the ram slot; only reason I mention this is that people do dumb things sometimes. Including me.

So I tested it with a different stick of RAM, but I'm still getting the 3 beep RAM code.

Hey peacemaker this may sound wierd but have you checked your GPU? Had this problem a while back and the last thing i thought it would be was the GPU. Even though it had been working 10 minutes before i used it in my new computer.

It did it with no GPU, old GPU and new GPU.
