Hello,

I purchased a bare bones lenovo thinkcentre M57 and I need to purchase a cpu, ram , etc. I plugged the power cord in just make sure it would turn on but it doesn't at all. No power light and no led on the board itself to signify power going into it. Is it it a bad power supply or is it possible that it wont turn on without a cpu and ram installed? These power supplies aren't cheap and are tough to find, I don't want to spend too much money fixing up this machine.

If you want to check the PSU you can use the "paper clip test".

You need at least a CPU for the system to turn on. You need a CPU, RAM, and video card for the system to successfully POST (single short beep).

The paperclip test can tell you if a PSU is bad (no activity). However, it cannot tell you for certain that the PSU is good. All you will know is that it can produce the minimal 12 volt power to eun the PSU fan.
