Hey guys, new member, long time reader here. I had a couple quick questions about this new GTX 560 (not ti) that came out today. I have read the reviews here and other websites (http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/MSI_Gigabyte_GTX_560/) regarding it and I am now at a loss. I had my mind set on a 6870 but now that this card has come out, it seems I must once again rethink life itself and pick between the two.

From what I have read, the 560 can be overclocked very very nicely, making it overall better than the 6870. At the same time, I don't know much about overclocking video cards too much. I guess you just get some software from the manufacturers and tweak around the settings, much like you would overclock a CPU, but how do you really go about testing to see if the card is stable?

I guess really, If not these I wanted to see what the community might think that i should get instead. I dont want to spend much more then $200 for a card and I plan to play on a 1680x1050 display (which i dont plan on replacing). I don't mind not playing in HD but I would like a card that will last me a little while.

Thanks guys!!

These are my comp settings:

Mobo: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 550 Black Edition Callisto O.C. to 4.1Ghz
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 at 7-8-7-24 speeds
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W ATX12V V2.2 (might need to replace this eventually)
GPU: PNY GeForce 9800 GT 1GB

6850 is 10% slower than 6870 and cost ~20$ less, so their value is more or less equal. 560 is a nice card, but currently it's a bit too much for it's performance. 6870, which at stock is more or less the same performance as 560, is around 190$ on newegg right now, while 560 is ~200$. Even in OC comparision both cards will still be worth each other. 560 gets better avg FPS, while 6870 - minimums that will make your gameplay smoother. IMO you should get what you like more.

The new 560 is just a teeny tiny bit slower than a 6870, nothing you would notice on 1680x1050.

The 560 does have some more headroom for overclocking than the 6870 does, averaging about a 15-20% performance increase over the 5-10% that the 6870 gets, however both cards are still very close performance wise.

Really, you can't lose either way in terms of performance. The real stickler here, is the price.

You can get a new 6870 for $192 right now on newegg, and the new GTX 560's are going to start at $225.

Well I guess with my mobo, I am gonna end up getting the 6870. Down the road, to get a nice boost upgrade, i can just buy another 6870 (should be much cheaper by then) and be able to compete with the top cards then. I have always liked Nvidia, but i'll give radeon a try and see how the fare.

thanks!
