I need to remove my CPU from my motherboard but it appears to be stuck. I lifted the latch on the socket, and it snapped! I did not apply much pressure and am going to be RMA'ing both the motherboard and CPU. I need to know how to seperate the two parts from each other before I can RMA them. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
CPU: AMD FX 8150
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-990FX-UD3
PSU: Corsair TX750
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200

What exactly do you mean by this? I see no clip or guide.

I do not see any clips attached to the socket

were they perhaps attached to this piece that broke?

Please don't take offense, but could you improve your grammar a little? It's hard to understand sometimes.

I've done a little research and have found it'll be a little too risky for me to try and manually take out the CPU myself. I'll take it to a local best buy or something to get taken out for me

local best buy, might as well get a hammer and take it out.

There's nowhere else I could get it done and I don't have the tools to do it myself. I may get them to, but I may not.

Thanks for the reply, I tried this but on one side the stupid heatsink gets in the way, and from the other side the processor doesn't seem to want to budge. Do you know any store that could be trusted to take it out?

Also, does anyone know if I can suction it out of there? I've read people put a little toothpaste between the cpu and HSF and let it dry and pryed it out that way. Can you do that without damaging the CPU pins?

[strike]Wait, you said the heatsink gets in the way.
You can't remove the CPU without removing the heatsink first lol[/strike]

EDIT: Just saw the pic you posted. You must be referring to some other heatsink. Sowwy.

I'm fairly sure you are correct. I'll be talking to computer repair stores about it. Gigabyte has confirmed they will RMA though which is nice. AMD too if the pins are ok
