Hey guys im currently running a core 2 duo E8400 on a socket775 mobo. A bit out of date on the socket but they do make quad cores for that socket, there no i7s but its still a quad. Im looking to upgrade so what do you think would be the best quad core CPU i can get for that socket? Something that is just a little over 200 dollars at most im not gonna spend 300 for it. Thoughts?

I use an Intel E7300 that uses the LGA775 also. My overclock @ 3.48 is stable and cool using a $24.00 Loki cpu cooler. Prices of the c2 duo and quads are over priced as you can get a Sandy Bridge set up around your price range. This is a bundle from MWave. I have looked on EBay to up grade mine and even used Core cpus go for up to $100.00

Intel BX80623I32100 Core i3 2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1 GHz Socket 1155 65W Dual-core Desktop Processor
Bundle Options:
•MSI H67MS-E23 (B3)
•KINGSTON 4GB KIT DDR3 1333-(2GB x 2)

SKU: BA47614 -BE90045 -BA25731

$229.97 Newer Intel cpus double the threads per core so the 2 core SB. will allow 4 threads. You can bundle allmost anything at MWave.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition - $104.99

Quad-core AMD alternative to the i3-2100. A great majority of Phenom II X4 955 processors can run just as fast as a Phenom II X4 975 through a simple BIOS multiplier change from 16x to 18x, so if you're comfortable with that sort've thing, there is that. Better suited for multi-threaded applications, but the i3 will generally thrash in most other cases.

GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 + CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 $116.98

Not much to say. AM3+ board. Ram.

So, $222.97 shipped. This, or an i3, would be your best choice.
