Hiya,

I've undone the screws on the bottom of the laptop to free up the piece
of plastic across the keyboard but the plastic is still locked solid at
one point so there must be something I've not undone. I don't want to
break it as the laptop's not mine. Does anyone know how I get the
plastic off so I can get to the keyboard screws...

and have sorted the problem.
