Wireless PCI cards vs. USB adapters

Hey guys I'm thinking about making my desktop wireless capable just for the sake of convenience. This is something I've never dealt with before. The only two directions I know to go with this one is either a PCI wireless card or a USB plug in. Which yields more quality and reliability? Although a USB adapter would obviously be more convenient for its portability, does it yield the same quality as a PCI card?

As you say USB offers more flexibility and the lead can be extended to improve reception in some situations.

However, my experience is that PCI is more reliable and, for some reason, reception seems better (assuming you can position the computer so that the antenna is not obstructed) .
