What IS The Chipset

Hi Guys,, I Want To Know What is THe Chipset And What's it's Function..Where's it's location on the MOBO./
And Want to know .. Bios updates can be downloaded From the MOBO website Or From where or what?

The chipset is a companion to the CPU which contains things like SATA (or IDE, for older boards) and USB controllers, the keyboard and mouse controllers, and other basic functions. Usually it's protected by a heatsink on the motherboard. The memory controller was a key function of older chipsets, but modern Intel and AMD chips have the memory controller on board the CPU, which gives better performance.
