ATX or mATX

Can you guess from these pictures if my mobo is ATX or mATX. I think mATX since it comes from an X3960. which is a small computer.

  1. It's not ATX. It looks to me like its mini-TX because of how close the I/O ports are to the end of the board. mATX boards can very in size though so I can't completely rule out mATX.
  2. ATX usually has 7 expansion slots, micro-ATX usually has 3-4, mini-ITX has only 1-2.

That board has only two slots which makes mini-ITX or at least ITX-like.
  3. I think it's mATX with 2 expansion slots. mITX is VERY small, and your board has 4 memory slots.

Mini-ITX can be up to 170x170mm which is as large as the smallest standard micro-ATX footprint.

    Nano/Pico-ITX are the tiny versions.
  5. Do u think you could put a graphics card on there or not ? Or will i need to buy a new one ? Any suggestions ? My budget is around £50 - £ 70 for a new mobo if i need one.

From the looks of it, your GPU slot is right up against the case wall so you would need to look for single-slot GPUs. At a glance, this limits you to something like a Radeon HD6570.

thats a link to the mobo so you can see more, i have a bigger case so i was wonder whether a Geforce 550ti would fit on the mobo. It has two slots which you can remove for the DVI and mini HDMI on the side of that case ?

it says PCIE 16 so it shoud handle it ? right ?
  8. And the motherboard is aound 8.5inchs to .5inch ( Length then width ) Is it mATX or smaller ?
  9. A typical DVD ROM is 150mm and Mini-ITX is 170mm, so 'looking' it appears the MOBO is Mini-ITX.

Keep in mind OEM MOBO's often use custom sized MOBO's, the smartest move is to measure the exact dimensions before replacing anything -- if the goal is to have the replacement fit properly. Otherwise sure a refurbished (same) replacement.
  10. Definitely Mini ITX Form Factor 6.75 inch x 6.75 inch ( 17.1 cm x 17.1 cm ).
  11. its not Mini ITX because i measured it. The motherboard is 8.5inch by 7.5inch ( 215mm by 190mm ). i think its an mATX and it will fit fine a new case. Thanks for your help anyways.

    That's a custom PCB and the closest is FlexATX 9.0" x 7.5" (229 x 191 mm).

If you can fit a mATX MOBO then use it.
  13. ok, thanks m8
