I have an SP but the screen does not work. Does anyone need it for
parts (everything else works)? Could I get it fixed? What would
that cost? Any info apprec.

My uneducated guess would be that you would do better to just pick up a used
one that works...cuz I'm thinking the screen may be the most expensive part
to repair. Some places might even give you a trade in discount if you trade
the broken one.

I have seen the LCD for the GBA-SP being sold in the past when I hunted down
a replacement shoulder button. If I remember right, it was only like $28.
Unfortunetly, I can't recall where I saw them sold.
However, as I hunted down the shoulder button, I did save notes on other
components of the SP for future reference.
The part number and description you would need to seek out would be:
+ Sharp LQ029B2DB51R (GBA SP Replacement LCD)
As for the Y-heads, if you are careful and work on a bench/table with plenty
of lighting, they can be removed with a small standard precision
screwdriver. Be gentle as they can strip quite easily.
Your best bet is probably just to purchase a new one and recover some
dollars by auctioning the damaged one on Ebay. Probably get at least $20.

thanks... I cant decide if I want to try to fix it or just dump it on
ebay. Since I have a DS I dont really need it, but it would be fun if
I could fix it cheap.

I hear ya. I also have a DS and SP, but would hate to part with the SP. (I
prefer it over the DS for playing GBA games.)
Hopefully you can find a cheap fix for it.

That's interesting, I think the screen on the DS is way better... What
advantage does the SP have over the DS for you?

Don't know about for the original poster but for me it actually has
connectivity for GBA games - DS does not provide connectibility for anything
but DS games - you can play gba games but you can't use any features that
require you to connect to another gameboy.
Also, the DS is ergonomically poor - leaving me with aching hands from
having to hold out too far to the edge to support the weight - only an issue
for folks like me with arthritis in the hands.
One last thing - SP is much more portable and fits easily in a pocket while
the DS is a bit big..at least for my pockets. All that said, I still use my
DS occasionally since the screen is so much brighter.

Hi,
With the exception of linking (never done any GBA multiplayer), pretty much
the exact same things that Ralph mentioned.
I don't get hand cramps with the SP, but occasionally do with the DS. Love
the size of the SP as well. I made a "skin-tight" Nomex "glove" for the SP
which doesn't add hardly any size to the SP but protects it from getting
banged/scratched up. I can keep it in pant's pocket, even with keys in
same pocket, without worry of damage. Lately, the only thing I do with the
SP is use it for NES and Sega Master System emulation so just carry the SP
around with only one cartridge (flash cart).
I'm with ya on the DS's screen though. Definetly much nicer than the SP.
DS just isn't as easy to toke around (at least for me) as the SP though.
