Why is the 6870 faster than the 5850?

Hey, I'm just curious... Why is it that the 6870 is faster than the 5850? this site http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/10/22/at... shows that the 5850 has quite a few superior aspects... but somehow the 6870 in actual application is several percent faster... what?
