Nvidia GT 430 right for my needs?

I am in the process of building my first custom build pc and have a question.
I want to learn how to make computer games and will be installing 3ds Max and using the unreal engine once the machine is put together. My question is whether the video card that i want to purchase will be sufficient enough to run those applications in order to display the rendered graphics.

GeForce GT 430

with 8gb of ram

  1. no, refer to your other post, no need to post twice about the same question. get a gt240, the gt 430 is slow despite being called a higher number.
  2. Thank you so much for replying. One more thing though.

I found a gt 240, will this be good enough--- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121353R

Or should i go for a Radeon HD 5670, even though its more expensive it's a whole lot better correct?

    thanks again
  3. the Difference between the nvidia 240Gt and ati 5670 isn't so much huge. Just go with nvidia 240Gt and save the bucks for some huge future upgrades. but if you really want a 5670 you can go with some 512Mb version they are pretty cheap and moreover some models of this card can be found for $65. Good luck.
  4. the gt240 does support cuda which may be useful for your video rendering depending on the program you use.
