buffered or unbuffered, what's default?

if a webshop says 'sdram 128mb pc 100'
should I assume it is buffered or
unbuffered??

I'm not a memory pro, but from what I've seen, most of the RAM is unbuffered.

However, I never assume anything when I purchase. If you're in doubt, get at least a verbal confirmation from the vendor. That way you don't get stuck with something you can't use.

It's unbuffered unless it's ECC ram, even then it should work fine using non-ecc ram settings in the BIOS...
