So, I am trying to upgrade an old Acer computer, but I have run in to a problem. The original motherboard had 14 pins for the F_Panel connection: http://i.imgur.com/n4ezx.jpg

The new motherboard has only 10: http://i.imgur.com/aRFg3.jpg

And here is the connector from the case:

So, as you can see, there are two wires (the orange and green ones) that have nowhere to go on the new motherboard. Do any of you know what these wires do, and are they important? Also, the extra 4 sockets on the connector would cause it to be blocked by the SATA port on the new motherboard. Can I cut them off (If so, with what?)

UPDATE:

Wires turned out to lead to a networking light.

I went ahead and cut it (all I had was an x-acto knife, but it worked pretty well). It fit in to the new mobo perfectly, and once I finished setting everything up, the power button and lights (minus the network one of course) seem to be working great!

Side note: Spoilers seem kind of broken. When closed they are the same size as they are when they are open, instead of just being small. (Chrome 21.0.1180.55)

You've got a problem. That is a proprietary case connector for a proprietary header on the Acer board. You'll have to pull the wires from the connector block and plug them in one-by-one to the correct pins on the new board.

No, you can't cut anything off.

They are all already in the correct spots to fit the new motherboard, except the orange and green ones, and I don't know what those are for. There are already wires for the Power and HDD lights and the power switch. The computer doesn't have a reset switch, so I really don't know what else there would be for those wires.

EDIT: Popped off the front panel of the case and realized that they led to a network light (or at least, that is what it looks like, it is definitely a light though).

I don't need this light, nor is there a spot on my mobo for it anyway, so is there anything wrong with just cutting the plastic connector along this red line (or a little to the left of it)? both of the holes are empty, so I shouldn't be disrupting anything.

No, nothing wrong with doing that as long as you don't distroy the plug or the wires in case you decide you need/want them. Good luck.
