Ram question

i have a p4m800pro v2 m/b i know that the max ram is 2gig, but heres my problem this bord was gifted from a friend and one of the clips on the second ram slot is broken thus rendering that slot usless. so my question is can i put i 2gig stick in one of the slots to reach my maximum

Warranty, ask your friend for the receipt. If a 'part' of your mobo is broken, consider all of it broken.

it is an old system and was more of a hand me down then a gift

yes you can put 2gb in one stick but if your mobo can support 2gb in one stick.what do you mean by ddr3 400mhz?

First, your motherboard uses DDR2 RAM.

Second, the main value of the DIMM retaining clips is to make sure the RAM is fully seated in the socket. If the only problem is that broken memory clip, you should still be able to use that socket. Have you tried? Just make sure that the memory module is fully seated.
