nVidia GT 240 - HD Video Skips

When I try to play HD video in certain situations, it skips every few seconds. I can play Mirror's Edge with all settings maxed out at ~55-65fps. But I can't play HD videos. Here are the details:

1. In Mirror's Edge, the cartoon-ish cut scenes skip every 4-6 seconds.
2. In the 3D cut scenes, the video plays slower than the audio, making the video get really behind, but neither skip or stutter.
3. HD videos in VLC skip and stutter every few seconds, but HD videos on Youtube and in Windows Media Player are perfect.

Here are my specs:
CPU AMD Athlon X2 4600+ (2.6Ghz Dual-core)
RAM 2gb DDR2 533mhz (dual channel)
GPU nVidia GT 240 from XFX (512mb GDDR3)
HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200 SATA2 320gb (ST332082-0AS)
RES 1280x1024 @ 75hz

Anybody have any ideas?

What codec package are you using
I have been using K=lite Mega Codec package for years with good results

I am not saying for sure but broken codecs can cause alot of video problems

I'll look that up. But that still doesn't explain the issues in Mirror's Edge. I don't have these problems in older games.
