Hey guys... Back when I ran the Asus A8N... The On_Board Audio solutions were good... atleast good enough for me. Has anything changed? or are there some major leaps in adding the extra card?

Forgot to mention, I was looking at the Omega Striker 7.1 or the Creative X-FI titanium pro.. I really can't see spending $150 on a audio card... the Omega Striker is alittle more reasonable.

The audigy SE looks decent $29.99(newegg)

I think that many would agree that on-board sound is generally good enough for most purposes. I'd give a really thorough listen and if you're not satisfied with that you hear consider a discreet card. Most folks here seem to prefer the Asus Xonar cards but I've had good luck with the X-Fi.

I would say on-board is good enough as well. When my Soundblaster Audigy died last year, I was too cheap to buy a new sound card so I am currently using on-board sound. It "sounds" good enough for me that I actually do not miss by Soundblaster.

I might buy a new sound card when I build a new computer though.

yea kinda what i figured... I had bad luck with creative's cards in the past, they just seem bloated with all their software utilities....

I think i'll stick with the On-Board Audio. Thanks guys.

If your using a pair of can then a soundcard is the best option. That's the only reason why the avg joe buys them these days.

But to use it for music like 16bit sound that dac is good enough. Only with 24bit content it will start to add more noise to the signal than what a soundcard would.
